Residents in Clinton will have an opportunity to clean up their properties during the city’s annual Spring City Wide Clean-Up Week, set for May 4 through May 9.

During the week, the City of Clinton is offering free disposal of selected items at the Transfer Station for residents living within city limits. Officials say the program is designed to encourage property clean-up and improve neighborhood appearance.

To qualify for free disposal, residents must provide proof of city residency. Acceptable forms include a driver’s license, utility bill, or property tax receipt. The city notes it may limit the amount of items accepted from a single household, and regular fees will apply for those unable to show proof of residency.

The Transfer Station, located at 1305 North Washington, will be open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The facility will remain open during the noon hour throughout the week.

Items accepted free of charge include boards, appliances, furniture, bulk items, refrigerators with compressors removed, and air conditioners with proper Freon removal certification. Regular fees will still apply for household trash and carpet.

City officials say certain items will not be accepted, including tires, batteries, commercial waste, shingles, liquids, chemicals, hazardous materials, concrete, rock, soil, and demolition debris.

Curbside pickup will not be available during Clean-Up Week.

In addition, the city’s compost and brush site at the Wastewater Treatment Plant on South Vansant will offer extended hours. The site will be open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Residents can dispose of lawn waste, leaves, brush smaller than three inches in diameter, and grass clippings at no charge, though all plastic bags must be removed.

City officials encourage residents to take advantage of the program and help keep Clinton clean.
