Osage Valley Electric Cooperative (OVEC) will return approximately $1 million in capital credits to eligible members beginning August 1, 2026, continuing the cooperative’s long-standing tradition of sharing excess revenues with its member-owners.

As a not-for-profit, member-owned electric cooperative, OVEC operates at cost. Any revenues that exceed the cost of providing electric service are allocated to members as capital credits. The cooperative’s Board of Directors authorizes the retirement of those credits when the organization’s financial condition allows.

The board approved this year’s retirement based on the cooperative’s continued financial strength and sound management.

The 2026 capital credit retirement includes margins from 1997, 1998 and 2025. Each member’s refund is based on the amount of electricity they used during those years.

Current members who are eligible will see their capital credit retirement applied as a credit on their August 1 electric bill. Former members who no longer receive service from OVEC will receive their refund by check through the mail.

Members who did not receive electric service from OVEC during 1997, 1998 or 2025 will not be eligible for a capital credit refund this year.

OVEC is also reminding both current and former members to keep their mailing address up to date with the cooperative to ensure they receive any future capital credit retirements for which they are eligible.
