Drivers traveling through St. Clair County should plan for significant delays as a section of U.S. Route 54 will be closed during daytime hours Thursday and Friday while crews repair storm-related damage.
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) says U.S. Route 54 will be closed between Route K and Route V, west of Collins, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, and Friday, July 17.
The closure will allow MoDOT and contractor crews to remove rock and debris that slid onto the roadway following recent heavy rainfall.
During the work:
- All lanes of U.S. Route 54 will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days.
- The highway will reopen each evening and remain open overnight.
- The roadway will also be open throughout the weekend.
- No official detour will be posted, and motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes.
MoDOT will have message boards and traffic signs in place to alert drivers approaching the closure.
Motorists are reminded that weather conditions or scheduling conflicts could change the work schedule.
For the latest road conditions and closures, drivers can check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map or contact the MoDOT Springfield District at 417-895-7600.
