The Clinton City Council will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 6 p.m. at Clinton City Hall, 105 E. Ohio St. A Finance Committee meeting will precede the council session at 5:15 p.m. There will be no Public Safety Committee meeting.
Among the items on the council’s agenda is the second reading of an ordinance approving the final plat for Cobie Estates. The Planning Commission voted 7-0-2 to recommend approval of the re-platting proposal before referring it to the City Council.
The council will also receive a report from the Public Works Committee, which includes updates from several city departments.
Community Development staff will report that the city’s Community Development Block Grant application was due July 31 and that eligible property owners continue to enroll in the program.
Parks and Recreation officials will ask the council to approve a proposal allowing rental spaces in the north parking lot of the Benson Center during the upcoming City Wide Garage Sale. The department will also provide updates on work to fine-tune the Community Center elevator, repairs to the Seresco unit at the aquatic center, the Soul Survivor camp at Artesian Park, and registration for fall soccer.
The Street Department will discuss a request for the city to pay for removal of a fallen tree at 1506 S. Leawood Drive after reviewing property owner and city responsibilities under subdivision plats and city code. Officials will also provide an update on repairs to a collapsed storm drainage clean-out near 101-103 E. Jefferson St., where long-term and short-term repair options are being evaluated.
Wastewater staff will present operations reports for May and June, a draft budget for the AWR system, and options for a 15-year capital improvement plan. The council will also receive an update on improvements at the wastewater treatment plant, including installation of a tilting weir, ongoing work at the east sludge basin, and efforts to resolve a design issue involving the actuator arm.
During the Finance Committee report, council members are expected to consider bids for the city’s depository and banking services.
Mayor Carla Moberly is also expected to announce an appointment to the city’s standing committees. Christy Staashelm has been nominated to replace Greg Shannon on the Public Safety Committee.
The meeting will also include approval or correction of the July 27 council meeting minutes, the city administrator’s report, and any additional business that may properly come before the council.
Residents wishing to address the council are asked to complete a speaker card and submit it to the city clerk before the meeting begins. Public comments are limited to three minutes per speaker.
