Drought conditions have done another about-face in Missouri, thanks to recent heavy rains.

The latest drought monitor map shows last week’s severe storms wiped out every area of moderate drought in the Show-Me State. The map shows a few spotty areas that are listed as abnormally dry. They’re located in northeast and southwest Missouri, and one abnormally dry area just north of St. Louis.

More than 95% of the Show-Me State is not experiencing any level of drought conditions. Perhaps ironically, the remnants of Hurricane Beryl made little to no contributions to this week’s drought status — but rainfall from the tropical system could be reflected in next week’s figures.

Missouri has been under a drought alert since May of 2023 and the current alert is set to expire September 1st. The state’s drought assessment committee is scheduled to meet next Friday, July 19 to review the situation.
