Hey everyone! The new Farmer’s Almanac Winter Forecast was released a few days ago. How many of you have followed the Farmer’s Almanac through the years? Personally, I have compared it to the LRC model over the last 4 years and the accuracy of the almanac was not anything to write home about. The Farmer’s Almanac uses very broad informative text as they describe the forecast each year. Take a look at 2023 forecast (picture 1): it called for a cold winter as well as average snowfall. We were about 3 degrees warmer on average here in WCMO for the winter. Our average snowfall for all 8 counties in WCMO for the winter runs approximately 16.5″. We averaged 9.5″ of snowfall for 2023. Now let’s take a look at the new 2024/2025 Farmer’s Almanac forecast (picture 2); we see the same forecast as last year with average snowfall and a cold winter. I do not have much confidence in the yearly prediction of the Farmer’s Almanac. We will have to wait and see what the LRC’s prediction will tell. This normally comes out around the first week of December, just before the start of winter. What are your thoughts? Do you cut open persimmons or another alternative way to determine the potential winter forecast? I would love to hear. Subby
