A federal appeals court has ruled that a controversial Missouri gun law is unconstitutional. The law, known as Missouri’s Second Amendment Preservation Act, or SAPA, disregards federal gun laws and penalizes state and local law enforcement agencies with large fines if they cooperate with federal enforcement of those laws.
A panel of judges agreed with a previous ruling that prevented Missouri from enforcing SAPA.
Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey said on social media that he will “always fight for Missourians’ Second Amendment rights.”
Meanwhile, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas praises the decision, and hopes that state leaders can address crime issues that make Missourians safer.
The ruling could be appealed.
