Community members gathered this morning on the Clinton Square, where a memorial is established with a piece of metal from the World Trade Center buildings, to commemorate the 23rd anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 09/11.
Bethany Ross served as Master of Ceremonies, initiating the ceremony with a few brief words, followed by an opening prayer given by Pastor Justin Wright of Allen Street Baptist Church. Clinton High School JROTC provided the Presentation of the Colors, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Boy Scout Troop 430. CHS senior Xavier Mason sang the national anthem.
After these observances, Ross again spoke briefly and introduced the guest speaker for the event, Col. Paul Howerton. Following Col. Howerton’s remarks, a student from Clinton High School band played Taps, and a moment of silence was shared. The closing benediction for the commemoration was given by Dan Beebe, Chaplain for the Clinton Fire Department.
Video of the ceremony was streamed live, and remains available for viewing online, at the Facebook page dedicated to Clinton, MO’s 9/11 Memorial.
