Immaculate Conception Catholic Church

Arlene Marietta (Swaters) Holmes was born on September 26, 1942, to Magdalene (Bettels) Swaters and Bernard Swaters of Montrose, MO.

– Arlene attended St. Mary’s School in Montrose until 8th grade and went to Montrose Public High School where she played volleyball and softball. She graduated high school in 1960 and moved to KC to work at Hallmark and experience city life for the first time. In 1976, she married Charles Siegismund and moved to Arkansas, welcoming daughter, Sharon Siegismund (now Sharon Patrick) in 1978.

Arlene and Sharon moved up to Overland Park KS. in 1985, where she began working at Black and Veatch and would continue to work, until retiring in 2002. That same year, she married Sonny Holmes in a beautiful ceremony in Lake Tahoe, CA. They bought a new house in Overland Park, where they’ve lived ever since.

Arlene is survived by her husband, Sonny Holmes, daughter Sharon Patrick (husband Gabriel) Sharon’s sons, Cameron and Brody Fisher, Arlene’s younger brother Jim Swaters, and many nieces and nephews.

Arlene is preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Magdalene Swaters, sister Joan Gieselman, and brother Bob Swaters.

Arlene was kindhearted and always greeted people with a kind smile. She loved dinners out with friends, lunches with cousins and outings with former coworkers. She never forgot her friends or loved ones, many of whom have reached out lately and brought her much joy. She was beyond grateful she was so close with her two grandsons, Cameron and Brody Fisher, who lived close to her.

Arlene loved watching Royals and Chiefs games with her family and baking cookies. She loved shopping and decorating cakes with her daughter. She loved Elvis and saw him at least once that we know of and has multiple statues and memorabilia.

Arlene enjoyed gardening, dancing, cooking, various crafts, holiday decorating, traveling, walking, and staying as active as she could. She loved baking cookies with her grandchildren. She was very overprotective but loved her daughter and grandchildren very much.
