The Drought Index In West Central Missouri….

WCMO is still in the severe drought criteria but the weather pattern is shifting. I am definitely seeing a new pattern setting up as the new LRC (Lezak Reoccurring Cycle) began on October 6th and will continue until we see it begin to repeat itself, which can be any number of days from 15 to as many as 60 days. Once this cycle is set, we can use it for long range forecasting for the next 11 months! However that “river” of air (jet stream) above our heads twists and bends over this cycle will return after a given number of days. So, whatever kind of set up we have had since October 6th we will see again. This system coming in on Monday the 21st will be repeating itself except it will not be “cut off” since the jet stream will continue to get stronger and more southernly. This will likely be an indicator of a Polar system that will happen around the 16th day of each cycle that could bring with it a chance for cold temperatures and the possibility of snowfall. It is so awesome to see the cycle set up each year as every year is unique; an entirely different weather pattern every year to some extent. I cant wait to see what our winter and spring will look like! Subby
