A proposal to build a casino at the Lake of the Ozarks has been dealt a losing hand. In Tuesday’s general election, roughly 52% of Missouri voters opposed Amendment 5.

The plan would have allowed the Missouri Gaming Commission to issue an additional license for a casino, which would have been built on the Osage River near Bagnell Dam.

Willie Isaacson, Chairman of the Christian Life Commission, told Missourinet that gambling can lead to many negative consequences.

“Gambling is an experience that can become very addictive, very quickly,” he said. And it doesn’t hurt just the individual, but the tendency is that it can have such negative outcomes as divorce, bankruptcy, child abuse, domestic violence, crime, suicide.”

Bally’s Entertainment was seeking to build a casino near the popular tourist destination.
