Countywide and Lazy J Trash pickup for Appleton City will be FRIDAY, November 29, 2024 (due to Thanksgiving Day)

New this year! Meet Me On Main for Small Business Saturday, November 30, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Participating businesses include Jina’s Junque, Rural Roots, 3 Wishes, 4th Street Fika and Bluebird Lounge.

The AIM Club of Montrose will be hosting their annual Christmas Lighting, Parade and Festivities Saturday evening November 30 in Montrose. Main Street will be “Lit Up” at 5:00 p.m. with the parade following. Individuals, families or businesses are encouraged to have a Christmas float in the parade. Register your float in front of Hart’s Upholstery between 4:00 – 4:45. After the parade everyone is invited to come to the Community Building for hot dogs, chili, hot chocolate and stay to watch the movie “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure”. The kids will then decorate Christmas cookies.

The Montrose Knights of Columbus will hold their annual Germantown Turkey Shoot on Sunday December 1, starting at 10:00 a.m. at the Germantown ball field. Tickets are $3.00 each and advance sale tickets will enter the purchaser into a drawing for prizes. There will be a youth shoot every hour. Tickets are available in Appleton City at Dr. Payton’s office, Fennewald Plumbing or any Knights members.

The annual Senior Citizen’s dinner at AC Schools will be 12:00 p.m. December 5 in the AC Elementary Gym. The doors will open at 11:30. All senior citizens in the Appleton City School District are invited to enjoy a traditional turkey and ham dinner with sides and desserts. Please RSVP by December 2 to 660-476-2161

Christmas in The Country is December 7, 2024. Any business or organization planning an open house or activity for December 7, please email Susan at rsrotert69@gmail.com with your hours and details. Deadline for inclusion in publicity is November 20.

The 28th Annual Christmas in the Country Depot Craft Show will be 9:00-3:00, December 7, providing shopping pleasure for all. All items provided for sale are hand crafted by the vendors. Returning crafters and some new faces will make this a great show. Plan to attend and buy locally for those on your Christmas List. This annual event is sponsored by Appleton City Museum.

The Annual AC Music Pancake breakfast and Open Mic fundraiser will be 8:30-11:00 a.m. in the AC elementary Gym. The menu includes all you can eat pancakes, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, coffee and juice. Adults eat for $10, kids 3-11 $5 and 2 and under free. There will also be performances by The Ozark Mountain 5, Tommy Payton, Danny Greathouse, Ben Yancy, AC Music Students Steel Band and more.

This year, there will be a Christmas Vesper service 4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 8, at Lakeview Event Barn. They are looking for choir members. Choir practice is held at 2:00 p.m. Sundays at Holy Trinity Church (formally TUMC). For more information, call 660-492-2757.

The historic W. H. Appleton library will be open to the public Saturday, Dec 7 from 9:00 – 3:00 during Christmas in the Country. Stop in and see this important part of the town’s history and receive a commemorative bookmark.

The Grinch Candy Cane Hunt is 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 7 in Forest Park at. Age groups will be taped off. A special candy cane found in each area will get the lucky person a prize! Get your picture taken with The Grinch!

The Knights of Columbus will have their monthly pancake and sausage breakfast at the Knight’s Hall in Montrose on Sunday, December 8 from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. Treat your family to a hot breakfast you don’t have to cook or clean up. A free will donation will be greatly appreciated

The Appleton City Ministerial Alliance meets throughout the year providing community services and opportunities for the area churches to gather together for worship. Additionally, the ACMA helps people through the region in a variety of ways. In 2023 the ACMA founded the Tony Reynolds Memorial Scholarship, which is a $1000 scholarship awarded locally to an area student pursuing continuing education post-high school. Some in the community have asked about the ability to make donations directly towards the scholarship fund that are not used in other ACMA endeavors. At any time, you may make donations towards the ACMA and they encourage you to do so. You may make donations at any of their community meetings, or feel free to contact one of the ministers serving in the ACMA for more information.

The next Second Wednesday Meet Me On Main Shop & Stroll will be December 11, 2024, from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Participating businesses will include Jina’s Junque, Rural Roots, 3 Wishes, 4th Street Fika, and Bluebird Lounge.
