Peggy Lee (Gover) Sherman, age 99, Pittsburg, Kansas, formerly of Clinton, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, January 16th at Oakview Estates in Frontenac, Kansas.  We will greatly miss our mother, Mimi and Great Mimi. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, January 21st,2025 at 11:00 AM at the Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will follow in the Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, Missouri. The family suggests memorial contributions to be made to the charity of the donor’s choice and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Peggy was born in Finey, Missouri, on October 29,1925, the daughter of the Luther and Fayta (Knisely) Gover.  She attended elementary school in Deepwater, Missouri, and graduated from Clinton High School in 1943. On November 21, 1943 she married Harold Sherman in San Diego, California, where he was stationed in the Navy.  Peggy worked at Ryan Aeronautics until Harold was transferred overseas, and then she then returned to Clinton.

Life was good in Clinton after the war.  Peggy enjoyed bridge, golf, a singing group and social clubs. Her girlfriends later formed a birthday club and celebrated together for many years.

After divorcing in 1963, she brushed up on her shorthand, passed the civil service test and was hired at the Henry County Welfare Office.  After many years of service, she retired as Income Maintenance Supervisor in 1990. Early in her business career, Peggy met Jim Colin from Butler, Missouri.  Together, they especially enjoyed their love for cards, fishing, camping, and traveling with friends.  They shared a happy companionship that would last 47 years.

Not only did Peggy continue her love of bridge, golf and clubs, but she also provided volunteer services at the hospital and pursued her past and joined D.A.R.

Her true love has always been her family, and in 2013, she moved to Pittsburg, Kansas.  She often said she never regretted the move because she loved seeing her great-granddaughters in many activities, and she also made new close friends.  Peggy was a member of the First
United Methodist Church in Pittsburg.

She remained an avid fan of the Kansas City Royals baseball, Chiefs football and the University of Kansas basketball.

She was preceded in death by her parents, companion Jim Colin, brother and sister-in-law Vance and Marilyn Gover, and nephew Glenn Gover.  Her children lovingly survive her: daughter Jan Correll and husband, Tom of Pittsburg, Kansas, and son Keith Sherman, and wife, Lupe, of
Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren, Kim (Chris) Scripsick of Pittsburg, Kansas; and Kelly (Jory) Aman of Prior Lake, Minnesota; and great-grandchildren, Ali, Ava, and Aubrey Scripsick and Jackson and Liam Aman.  The family is thankful for her long life and is grateful to the
Oakview Estates Residential Care staff for their compassionate care the past three years.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri
