Lakeland R-III School District administrators were made aware of potential safety concerns related to a school shooting threat made between students. The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office was contacted and a joint investigation into the potential threat was started. Our practice is always to take any threat seriously and investigate thoroughly. We do not have any reason to believe there is any danger to students, faculty, and staff. There is no evidence of an imminent threat and school will continue to be in session.
Families, please understand the serious consequences for students that can come from participating in or creating threats verbally, or via social media. School safety is a collective effort and if you or your student become aware of any type of threat please report it directly to school staff, law enforcement, or to Courage2Report, the state of Missouri’s official reporting mechanism. You can report a threat by calling 1-866-748-7047 toll-free, or by texting “C2R” to 738477 to receive a link to an anonymous tip form.
Our administrative team and staff work closely with law enforcement to ensure a safe environment for our children. Local law enforcement will continue to patrol our buildings regularly and we are continually evaluating our safety protocols to maintain a secure school community. It is through a cooperative partnership of the Lakeland R-III School District, the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, and Lakeland families that we will continue to engage in best practices of school safety.
