Gerald D. “Jerry” Simmers, 78, of Kansas City, Missouri, died Thursday morning, April 24, 2025, at his home.
He was born January 26, 1947, in Harrison, Arkansas, the son of William Franklin Simmers and Mary Ellen (Shillings) Simmers. On January 18, 2008, he married Wanda Christine Coates in Warrenton, Mo., and she survives of the home.
Jerry served in the United States Coast Guard from 1966 to 1970 and then in the United States Marine Corps from 1975 to 1980. He co-owned and operated Simmer’s Trucking with his wife. He took great pride in his trucks and kept them in excellent condition. He was a successful pool player, participating in Billard’s leagues and tournaments. His dogs Pancho and Lulu were his constant companions and his pride and joy.
In addition to his wife Wanda, survivors include 2 children, Kristy Liber (Doug), Smithville, Mo., and Jake Simmers, Clinton, Mo.; 6 grandchildren, Zak (Abigail), Kyle, Courtney, Casey, Katie, and Josh; a great-granddaughter, Hadleigh; a sister, Billie Jean Rowe, Osage City, Kansas; a brother, Richard F. “Rick” Simmers (Marilyn), Kearney, Mo.; and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Pamela.
A private family graveside service will be held at the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor, Mo. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor. Condolences may be left online at www.hadleyfuneralhome.com.
