State Fair Community College golfer Samuel Verbovshchuk finished tied for 13th as an individual at the NJCAA South Central District Tournament, held May 7-8 at Lake Hefner Golf Club.
Verbovshchuk opened with a 73 on Wednesday morning, his lowest round of the event, followed by a 74 in the afternoon. He closed with a 78 on Thursday for a 54-hole total of 225.
“Sam played fantastic,” SFCC head coach Wayne Ogle said. “Sam set a personal best in tournament play. He was very competitive in all three rounds and earned Second Team All-Region honors. Sam was in position to advance to the national tournament with a few holes to go, but the breaks didn’t go his way. After the round, I told him to be proud of his play and to understand that only a few players had the opportunity that he had to make the end of the event matter. Golf is a very difficult game and tournament golf is even harder.”
