Dale Clinton Huggins, 85, of Windsor, Missouri, formerly of Richmond, Virginia, died late Monday evening, April 29, 2025, at Bothwell Regional Health Center, Sedalia, Mo.
He was born January 31, 1940, in Rockglen, Saskatchewan. On December 11, 1965, he married Marie Elizabeth Dodge in South Royalton, Vermont. Dale’s assignment with the United States Coast Guard took them to Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin where they made their first home. In June of 1966, they were stationed in New Hampshire and then Washington DC in January of 1967. They were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Cimberlee Marie, on December 2, 1968, and a son, Clinton Dale, on March 9, 1971. 1981 was an eventful and joyful year as the family first adopted Marie’s niece, Terri P. Dodge, then moved to Richmond VA where the final addition to the family, George Francis was born on August 28.
Dale played for a short time as catcher for the San Jose Red Sox, a farm team of the Boston Red Sox. While serving in the Coast Guard, he spent three years in the Mediterranean near Greece. He made an appearance as an extra on the 1961 film “The Guns of Navarone”. His last posting during his Coast Guard career was as an honor guard for the Supreme Court during the inauguration of President Richard Nixon in 1969. After his military service, he worked building golf courses until turning his love for fishing into a career. He owned a small fly fishing boutique where he was a fishing guide and taught flyfishing and fly tying, along with selling fly fishing gear and clothing. Working for Orvis, he was right at home continuing his sales and as an instructor and guide. As an avid outdoorsman, he also enjoyed hunting and sporting clays.
After retirement, he and Marie moved to Windsor where he enjoyed being close to family and sharing friendships over the poker table at the American Legion and Pickled Possum. Dale also loved to watch the local kids play baseball and softball. He took yearly trips to see his sons living on the East coast and spending time with his grandsons. He especially liked being in Florida during January.
Survivors include a daughter Cimberlee Mothersbaugh (Michael), Windsor, Mo.; a son, George Huggins (Perkins Morgan), Goochland, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Leann Pennington, Palm Coast, Florida; 2 grandsons, Clinton Lee Huggins, Jr. and George Wilder Huggins; a sister, Linda Arms, California; 2 nieces, Shannon and Amanda; and a son whom he met later in life, Mikayal Aja and his daughter Joy.
