It is said that small communities often offer the best support, and in the case of the
2025 Sherwood high school seniors this is certainly the case. This year the class of 2025
received over $80,000 in scholarship funds all from local, community donors. While the
Sherwood community is known as a small, rural community, it should certainly also be
known as a community with a big heart. Notably, Mr. Daryl Sloan, a community member and
avid Sherwood supporter, awarded students $28,000 in scholarship funds through the Samuel
A. Sloan, Evelyn Sloan and Beulah Sloan McCoy Scholarship alone.
In addition to the immediate community support, seven Sherwood graduates were awarded
and will be utilizing a $50,000 KC Scholars Scholarship for their college education. This is an
additional $350,000 in KC local funds that will greatly benefit Sherwood students as they move
forward with their future endeavors.
At the end of the day, the story continues to be the same each year. We are amazed by the way
a small community can rally to support local students. Paying for college in today’s economy is no
small feat, but with the support of a community that believes in coming together for the good of the
next generation, it becomes a little more possible. Congratulations to the Sherwood class of 2025!
