The Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC) today granted Certificates of  Public Convenience and Necessity (CCN) to Evergy Missouri West, Inc. for the construction of three new  natural gas electric generating plants and two solar generating plants to meet anticipated load growth needs.

The three natural-gas fired plants are as follows: an advanced class 710-megawatt combined cycle gas turbine  generating facility, known as the Viola Generating Station, in Sumner County, Kansas; an advanced class 710- megawatt combined cycle gas turbine generating facility, known as the McNew Generating Station (McNew),  in Reno County, Kansas; and a 440-megawatt simple-cycle gas turbine generating facility, known as the Mullin

Creek No. 1 Generating Station (Mullin Creek No. 1), to be located in Nodaway County, Missouri.

The Commission also granted CCNs to Evergy Missouri West for the West Sunflower Sky Solar Project, LLC,  an approximately 65-megawatt solar farm to be located and constructed in Wilson County, Kansas; and the  Foxtrot Solar Energy, LLC, project, an approximately 100-megawatt solar farm to be located and constructed in  Jasper County, Missouri.

The Missouri Public Service Commission regulates investor-owned electric, natural gas, steam, manufactured  housing and modular units, water and sewer companies, and has limited authority over telephone providers in  the state. The Commission ensures the public has access to safe, reliable and reasonably priced utility service.  The Commission must balance the interests of the public – ratepayers – as well as company shareholders.
