August is Emergency Management Month, and here in Henry County, the message is clear: preparedness saves lives.
The Henry County Emergency Management Agency is using the month to highlight the critical work being done behind the scenes to keep the community safe during emergencies — whether it’s wildfires, floods, winter storms, tornadoes, or extended power outages.
“Out here, we know the importance of being prepared,” the agency said in a statement. “At Henry County Emergency Management, we work hard year-round to help our community stay safe when disaster strikes.”
The agency plays a key role in:
-
Developing emergency response plans tailored to Henry County
-
Supporting local fire departments, EMS, and law enforcement
-
Coordinating evacuations and shelter options
-
Keeping the public informed during active emergencies
-
Conducting trainings and drills with community volunteers
While officials are constantly planning ahead, Emergency Management Month is also a reminder for residents to take simple steps at home to improve personal preparedness:
-
Assemble an emergency kit with food, water, medications, and flashlights
-
Make a family communication plan
-
Keep a battery-powered radio on hand in case of power loss
“Preparedness is a team effort,” the agency said. “We all play a part in keeping our communities strong and ready. Let’s stay prepared — for each other.”
