Larry Allen Embry

Larry Allen Embry, 86, of Lake St. Louis, Missouri passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14 at St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake St. Louis with his family by his side.

Larry was born in Tipton, Missouri to Aetna Allen Embry and Helen Doris (Johnson) Embry. He went to high school at Tipton High School and graduated in 1957. He was very active in high school in Basketball, Softball and Track as well as Mixed Chorus and Band. He also worked part-time at the Tipton Times newspaper following in his mother and grandmother’s footsteps. After high school Larry attended courses at Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, Missouri. Larry was a gifted cornet player and earned extra money on weekends playing parties and events with a band. While attending courses in Warrensburg Larry also worked at Riggles Restaurant as a busboy. It was here that he met the love of his life, Mary Ruth (Hudson) Embry.

Larry and Mary Ruth were married November 23, 1960 in Calhoun, Missouri and would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this coming November. After getting married, Larry and Mary Ruth moved to Sedalia, Missouri where Larry went to work for the Sedalia Democrat newspaper as a reporter and photographer. A few years later he answered a classified ad in the St. Louis paper and was hired by McDonnell Douglas as a Technical Writer. Larry returned to college in 1966 attending night classes at University of Missouri-St. Louis and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1969. Larry worked for McDonnell Douglas for over 31 years in various management roles and retired in late 1997 (from now Boeing).

Over the years Larry was involved in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and served as a leader and Training Chairman. Larry was also very active in his church and was a faithful follower of Christ. At Florissant Presbyterian Church, and later Dardenne Presbyterian Church, he served as an Elder and Deacon. He was also active in the Presbyterian Mariner Organization and held several leadership roles. Larry loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed camping with scouts and with his family. Later in life Larry had the joy of being “#1 Grandpa” to five grandchildren (with mugs and t-shirts to prove he was #1).

Larry is survived by his wife, Mary Ruth (Hudson) Embry, of Lake St. Louis, Missouri and his children, Kris Allen Embry, [Kristina Marie (Jungmann) Embry] of St. Louis, Missouri and Kelly Ruth (Embry) Rash, [David Glen Rash] of Kansas City, Missouri, and grandchildren Jackson Allen Embry, Clare Marie Embry, Grace Marie Embry and Kayla Ruth Rash and Zachary John Rash. Larry is also survived by his sister, Lenora Jane Embry of Sherman Oaks, California.

Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor, Mo., with Pastor Jeffrey Cook officiating.
