Sedalia, MO – October 21, 2025 -The City of Sedalia has formally recognized October 19–25, 2025, as Sedalia Business Women’s Week, following an official proclamation issued by Mayor Andrew Dawson. The observance highlights the economic, civic, and cultural impact of women in the workforce and acknowledges the long-standing role of local organizations in supporting women’s professional growth.

According to national labor statistics referenced in the proclamation, women constitute more than 47 percent of the nation’s workforce. The proclamation notes that women serve their communities in a wide range of professional, civic, and cultural roles.

The movement to unify and support women in business in Missouri dates back more than a century. On June 13, 1921, women from across the state organized the Missouri Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, Inc., with a focus on advocacy, training, and legislative issues affecting working women. That group was re-chartered in 2010 as Business Women of Missouri, continuing its mission under a modern framework.

Sedalia’s chapter was first chartered in March 1923 as the Sedalia Business and Professional Women’s Club. In 2010, it was re-chartered as Sedalia Business Women. The organization operates as a nonprofit, nonpartisan, self-governing, member-supported group committed to empowering women under the guiding belief to “Believe in the Power of Women.”

Today, Sedalia Business Women includes members from a broad range of careers and professional backgrounds. While their roles differ, members share common objectives centered on education, leadership development, and advocacy.

The proclamation reaffirmed the organization’s mission: achieving equity for all women in the workplace through advocacy, education, and information.

In designating Sedalia Business Women’s Week, Mayor Dawson acknowledged the organization’s continued influence and the broader contributions of women to Sedalia’s workforce and economic development.

“Sedalia Business Women’s Week is an opportunity to recognize the leadership and dedication of women in our community, whose work continues to shape Sedalia’s progress,” Mayor Dawson stated.

The recognition aims to bring attention to the ongoing efforts of women who lead businesses, support economic activity, serve in public roles, and contribute to community development.
