
2025 marks 90 years since Dr. Ellett first opened Ellett Hospital in 1935. To help commemorate this great milestone the hospital is hosting a 90th Anniversary Celebration on October 24 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. At 10:00 a.m., the doors open and slide shows begin. From 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. lunch served. Garrett Hawkins will give a kick off speech at noon and closing remarks will be delivered as the event winds down. At 2:00 p.m., there will be a distribution of any remaining door prizes.
AC Masonic Lodge #412 will have a pancake breakfast 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Sunday, October 26 at the Masonic Hall, 219 E. 3rd St. Adults can have “all you can eat” for $10, $7 for children under 10 and kids 5 and under eat free. There will be raffles for cash prizes.
Appleton City and Hudson Parents As Teachers will host its Safe Trick or Treat Monday, October 27, starting at 10:00 a.m. at the AC Park. All kids age birth to preschool age (5) are welcome.
First Baptist Church members and AC FFA members will pick up Trick or Treat for World Hunger food donation bags on Wednesday afternoon October 22. Please fill your bags and set them out on your porches to help fill the local food pantry before the holidays.
Ellett Memorial Hospital announces its 8th Annual Girl’s Day Out Breast Cancer Awareness on Sunday, November 9, 2025 from 11-00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It is a community wellness event targeting breast cancer education, prevention, awareness and support. Diagnostic Imaging, P.A. will have their mobile coach unit here to conduct 3D mammogram screenings. Scheduling is open now to call and make your appointment at 913-344-9989. They will serve a light lunch with sweet treats, door prizes and vendors available. They invite everyone to participate with or without a scheduled mammogram. This important event is held to bring a vital service to this community and surrounding area, focusing on breast cancer awareness. Call 660-476-5216 with any questions.
Appleton City 3 and 4 year old screening will be held Friday, November 7, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Contact the Elementary School Office for info. .
Ellett Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is hosting a Book Fair located in the Out Patient Hallway from 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 30. Shop the WIDE selection of books, gifts, gadgets and must haves right before holiday season. Book Fair Mike is accepting cash, credit, Apple Pay, Google Pay and payroll deduct for EMH employees. Everyone is welcome to come begin holiday shopping and check out the new arrivals. You will find a wonderful selection at delightful prices on cool and unique items as gifts
The Golden Apples will meet 5:00 p.m. October 23 at Farmhouse Kitchen for fellowship, food and fun. The menu will be centered around fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy. Please bring sides and desserts to compliment the meal and be ready to win some bingo prizes afterward.
–Halloween in the park hosted by GFWC-Achievers will be October 31. Free hotdogs will be served 5:00-6:30 p.m. Costume judging for all ages, begins at 5:30. The GFWC-Achievers would love to see all the spooks!
–Appleton City Church of God Trunk or Treat will be October 31 6:00 p.m. until the treats are gone. All children of the community are welcome.
–First Christian Church will have hot dogs, treats and a treasure chest starting at 5:00 p.m. at the shelter.
–First Baptist Church will have Trunk or Treat 6:00-8:00 p.m. or until the treats are gone.
–Appleton Estates (300 S. Beech St) residents will be in the community room handing out candy to any kids that would like to stop by from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. October 31 to trick or treat them. The residents love to see the kids in their costumes, so please feel free to stop by.
October 27 is the 32nd anniversary of “The Little Apple”, which began in 1993 by the A. C. Economic Development as way of informing residents of news and events sponsored by area businesses and organizations. Items of a clearly personal nature, such as birthdays, anniversaries, awards (not group sponsored), personal sales and the like are not accepted for publication. The Appleton City Industrial Development Committee would like to thank the citizens of the area for their support over the last 32 years. They would also like to thank the volunteers who help make this newsletter possible. Christmas in The Country is December 6, 2025. It is time for all businesses and organizations to make plans for their open house or activity for the day’s event. A coordinator is needed to organize the times and locations for publicity and advertising. They are seeking volunteers.
