Appleton City Gears Up for Halloween Festivities and Busy Fall Event Calendar

–Halloween in the park hosted by GFWC-Achievers will be October 31. Free hotdogs will be served 5:00-6:30 p.m.  Costume judging for all ages, begins at 5:30.  The GFWC-Achievers would love to see all the spooks!

–Appleton City Church of God Trunk or Treat will be October 31 6:00 p.m. until the treats are gone. All children of the community are welcome.

–First Christian Church will have hot dogs, treats and a treasure chest starting at 5:00 p.m. at the shelter. 

–First Baptist Church will have Trunk or Treat 6:00-8:00 p.m. or until the treats are gone.

–Appleton Estates (300 S. Beech St) residents will be in the community room handing out candy to any kids that would like to stop by from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. October 31 to trick or treat them. The residents love to see the kids in their costumes, so please feel free to stop by.

 

Ellett Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is hosting a Book Fair located in the Outpatient Hallway from 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 30. Shop the WIDE selection of books, gifts, gadgets and must haves right before holiday season.  Book Fair Mike is accepting cash, credit, Apple Pay, Google Pay and payroll deduct for EMH employees.  Everyone is welcome to come begin holiday shopping and check out the new arrivals. You will find a wonderful selection at delightful prices on cool and unique items as gifts

 

Growing In Grace Community Center will serve Thanksgiving Dinner 3:00-6:00 p.m. Saturday, November 1, with music from Monegaw Strings.

 

3 and 4 year old AC preschool screening will be held Friday, November 7. This screening is for children NOT going into Kindergarten during the 2026-2027 school year. Please call the Elementary Office at 660-476-2108 to make an appointment. The screening should take 30 to 45 minutes

 

Ellett Memorial Hospital announces its 8th Annual Girl’s Day Out Breast Cancer Awareness on Sunday, November 9, 2025 from 11-00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  It is a community wellness event targeting breast cancer education, prevention, awareness and support.   Diagnostic Imaging, P.A. will have their mobile coach unit here to conduct 3D mammogram screenings.  Scheduling is open now to call and make your appointment at 913-344-9989. They will serve a light lunch with sweet treats, door prizes and vendors available. They invite everyone to participate with or without a scheduled mammogram. This important event is held to bring a vital service to this community and surrounding area, focusing on breast cancer awareness.  Call 660-476-5216 with any questions. 

 

First Baptist Church’s 150th Homecoming Celebration will be Sunday, November 9.  Morning Service is at 10:45 a.m., lunch is served at 12:30 p.m. and Homecoming Service is at 1:30 p.m.  The Church is located at 303 W. 5th St. in Appleton City.

 

Volunteer drivers are needed ahead of the busy year-end season. New Growth Transit especially needs volunteers in the Appleton City and Montrose area to provide free rides for residents who aren’t able to drive themselves to medical appointments and other essential destinations. Drivers are reimbursed $0.70 per mile (not income), receive training and ongoing support, and choose when and where they’re willing to drive. The Golden Apples will meet 5:00 p.m. October 30 at Farmhouse Kitchen for fellowship, food and fun. The menu theme is pot pie. Please bring sides and desserts to compliment the meal. Following the food and fellowship they’ll play some bingo where there is a winner every game.

 

Christmas in The Country is December 6, 2025.  It is time for all businesses and organizations to make plans for an open house or activity event. A coordinator is needed to organize the times and locations for publicity and advertising.  Contact Susan Rotert at 660-464-0288 to volunteer.

 

Christmas in the Country will be December 6. Organizers are planning a parade like last year but hoping for more businesses, churches and organizations to participate.  They would like all floats, golf carts, rangers, etc. to be decorated with Christmas lights.  The parade will be 6:00 p.m. Saturday night and lineup will be at the school.  After the parade, the Mayor’s Christmas tree lighting will take place and then Santa Claus will visit with the children.  If you would like to be in the parade, please contact Kristine Parks at 660-492-2171.

 

Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, November 2.  Remember to set your clocks back one hour. Fire Departments also recommend that it is a good time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.
