Holden, MO – The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday that formal charges have been filed against Holden City Treasurer Trista R. Garrett, following an investigation into the alleged misuse of city credit cards.
According to Johnson County Prosecutor Robert Russell, Garrett faces two felony charges — Stealing Over $25,000, a Class C felony, and Identity Theft, a Class B felony. Authorities allege Garrett used a City of Holden credit card for personal expenses totaling more than $100,000.
Investigators say the probe uncovered a series of unauthorized transactions over an extended period. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office submitted a criminal complaint earlier this week after reviewing financial records and statements from city officials.
Garrett voluntarily surrendered to the Johnson County Jail and has since posted a $10,000 cash-only bond.
City officials have not issued further comment as the investigation continues. Prosecutor Russell emphasized that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Further updates will be provided as more details become available in this developing case.
