A man wanted in four jurisdictions for multiple felony sex crimes against a juvenile is now in custody after more than two years on the run. Steven Andrew Bowman, who investigators say altered his appearance several times while attempting to evade arrest, was captured this week at a residence in Taney County, Missouri.
According to law enforcement, Bowman’s arrest was the result of an extensive, long-term investigation involving the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and detectives from the Clinton Police Department, Bates County Sheriff’s Office, St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, and Henry County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities say the cooperative effort spanned from Missouri to Las Vegas during the prolonged search.
Bowman faces a combined list of serious charges across multiple counties:
Bates County Charges:
• 3 counts of Statutory Rape (2nd degree)
• 9 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child – Creating Substantial Risk, Sexual Contact (1st degree)
• 6 counts of Statutory Sodomy (2nd degree)
Bond: $180,000 cash or surety
Henry County Charges:
• 2 counts of Statutory Rape (2nd degree)
Bond: No bond
St. Clair County Charges:
• 1 count of Sexual Assault – Sodomy or Attempted Sodomy
Bond: $250,000 cash or surety
Bowman had been sought since the original report was filed by the victim more than two years ago. Law enforcement agencies noted that he likely changed his weight, hairstyle, and facial hair in an attempt to remain hidden.
Officials say his capture marks the beginning of a long-awaited path toward justice in multiple counties.
The Bates County Sheriff’s Office previously announced that the U.S. Marshals Service had been offering a reward of up to $3,000 for information leading to Bowman’s arrest. With Bowman now in custody, authorities expressed appreciation for the public’s assistance and praised the coordinated efforts of all agencies involved.
Further details regarding Bowman’s extradition and upcoming court proceedings will be released by the respective jurisdictions.
