Wallace Lee “Wally” Slack

Wallace Lee “Wally” Slack, 76, of Calhoun, Missouri, died Wednesday afternoon, December 3, 2025, at the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton.

He was born October 6, 1949, in Kansas City, Mo., the youngest son of Henry Finks Slack and Marjorie Lee (Hostin) Slack. Wally graduated from Calhoun High School in 1967 and earned a Bachelor of Animal Science degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia. After four years of college, the urge to go back to the farm was strong and Wally moved back to the farm. He served in the Missouri National Guard for several years and worked as a security guard at the former KCP&L plant in Montrose, Mo.

On the family’s dairy farm, Wally had the special ability to nurture and care for the animals who needed nutritional or medical help. Turning the direction of the farm to beef cows and row crops in the late 1980s, Wally continued to bottle feed calves, often staying up late making sure all were properly fed and growing. In addition to the cattle on the farm, Wally had a tender spot for cats, often feeding too many to count. He also enjoyed going to sporting events with friends and watching sports on television. He was a member of the Calhoun Baptist Church and he and his brother Keith were honored as Grand Marshals for the Calhoun Colt Show parade in 2012.

Survivors include 2 brothers, Gerald Slack (Melva), Calhoun, Mo., and Keith Slack, Calhoun, Mo.; a niece, Jenny Dunaway (Ron), Owasso, Oklahoma; a nephew, Shannon Slack, Clinton, Mo.; 3 great-nieces, Krista Dunaway, Rachel Windschitl (Justin), and Nicole Catanzaro (Atean); a great-nephew, Preston Slack; 3 great-great nieces; a great-great nephew; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patty, in childhood.

Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 14, 2025, at the Calhoun Community Church in Calhoun with Rev. Jerry Reed officiating. Private family burial will follow in the Calhoun Cemetery. A memorial for funeral expenses has been established, and contributions can be made in care of the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor. Condolences may be left online at www.hadleyfuneralhome.com.
