Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare has launched the At Last Pediatric Asthma Care at Home (ALPACAH) program to improve asthma management for children and youth in rural communities. The program, led by GVMH’s newly established Innovation Committee, uses telehealth and remote monitoring technology to provide at-home asthma care, addressing challenges like limited healthcare access and long travel times for appointments.
The ALPACAH program offers a simple, effective asthma management regimen, including at-home spirometry tests that send real-time results to both patients and their healthcare providers. Virtual coaching from NuvoAir’s care team helps patients improve inhalation techniques and track asthma control from home, reducing the need for emergency room visits.
By leveraging technology and data-driven care, GVMH is enhancing both patient outcomes and provider satisfaction. The program also aims to reduce healthcare costs by minimizing unnecessary clinic visits and emergency care, benefiting both families and the healthcare system.
“Our Innovation Committee is dedicated to finding new, accessible solutions for rural communities,” said Rachel Boyles, Chief Ancillary Officer at GVMH. “With ALPACAH, we are giving families the tools they need to manage asthma more effectively and safely, right from home.”
The program is supported by funding from the Rural Citizens Access to Telehealth program and is part of GVMH’s ongoing commitment to reimagining healthcare for rural patients.
