Clinton, MO. – (Jan. 6, 2026) – Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare (GVMH) is earning national recognition for excellence in orthopedic innovation as James Womack, MD, Orthopedic Surgeon, has been published in the Journal of Experimental Orthopaedics for his pioneering work with a next-generation handheld robotic system designed for total knee arthroplasty (TKA).

This peer-reviewed study, “A Novel Handheld Wireless Robot for Total Knee Arthroplasty: Early Experiences and Clinical Results,” presents compelling early clinical findings showing that the compact wireless robotic device delivers highly precise alignment, strong functional outcomes and efficient operating times — all with no reported adverse events. The technology has the potential to significantly broaden access to robotic joint replacement by offering the accuracy of larger systems in a more versatile, streamlined format.

Dr. Womack served as a co-author on the national research effort, reinforcing his position as a respected leader in the rapidly advancing field of robotic orthopedics.

“This research represents an exciting step forward in how we approach joint replacement surgery,” said Dr. James Womack. “Our goal is always to provide patients with the safest, most precise and most effective care possible. Contributing to technology that may improve outcomes for patients everywhere is something I am incredibly proud to be part of.”

The study evaluated outcomes from the first clinical cases performed using the handheld robotic system. Results demonstrated precise implant alignment, efficient procedure times and patient-reported outcomes comparable to or better than traditional manual knee replacement surgery.

A board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Womack joined GVMH in 2011 and has since completed more than 1,500 robotic-assisted surgeries, solidifying his reputation as a leader in hip, knee and shoulder joint replacement.

He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City, OK, and earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry from the University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo, CO.

“Dr. Womack’s expertise and commitment to innovation continue to elevate the level of care we provide,” said Molly Teichman, Chief Operating Officer at GVMH. “His contribution to this landmark research reflects the exceptional talent we have here at GVMH and underscores our dedication to giving patients access to the most advanced surgical technologies available.”
