The Clinton City Council will meet in regular session Tuesday, February 3, to consider updates to the city’s building and construction codes, along with several public works and infrastructure items.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at Clinton City Hall, 105 E. Ohio Street.
Among the main action items is the second reading of Bill No. 2026-01, an ordinance to amend Chapter 8 of the Clinton Municipal Code to adopt updated versions of building and fire codes. City staff note the version before council includes minor corrections, including some provisions carried over from the previous code. The Public Works Committee and Community Development Committee both recommended the ordinance for approval by a 2-0 vote.
Council members will also receive a Public Works Committee report that includes a recommendation to rebid the Transfer Station building exterior rehabilitation project. The project was budgeted at $40,000, but the city received only one bid in the amount of $82,800. City staff indicated the original April 30, 2026, completion deadline discouraged additional contractors from submitting bids. The committee recommends rebidding the project with a later completion date of September 30, 2026.
Wastewater system updates will also be presented for information, including November and December operations reports. Officials will report that a new motor has been installed for the floating aerator at the West Sludge Basin, with the replaced motor being returned under warranty. An update on the wastewater treatment plant upgrade is also scheduled, with officials noting that weather delays postponed an electrical transfer and that replacement of all rotors is expected within the next few weeks.
Street Department items include a series of street-closure requests for the 2026 Cruise Night events in May, June, July, August, September and October, all recommended for approval by the Public Works Committee. Council will also receive a snow-removal update, reporting that approximately 85 to 86 tons of salt were used between Friday and Sunday during the most recent winter weather event. A fleet update will address maintenance issues involving a snow plow on an International truck and a fuel-pump replacement on another city vehicle.
Under unfinished business, council members are scheduled to continue discussion on the recruitment of a new city administrator, review LAGERS retirement benefit options, and consider an amended transportation policy tied to the city’s Comprehensive Safety Action Plan.
The meeting will conclude with a closed session related to real estate matters and sealed bids and proposals, as allowed under Missouri law.
Residents wishing to speak during the meeting are asked to complete a speaker card and submit it to the city clerk prior to the call to order. Public comments are limited to three minutes per speaker. Individuals needing accommodations may contact City Hall at (660) 885-6121 at least 48 hours prior to the meeting.
