Henry County officials have signed a new agreement aimed at preserving and improving public access points around Truman Reservoir.
On Tuesday, Operations Project Manager Brian Wright and the Henry County Commissioners signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) outlining a cooperative effort to maintain and provide access to selected road terminations within the Henry County portion of the Harry S. Truman Dam & Reservoir.
The agreement focuses on road terminations—designated access points where county roads meet federal land surrounding the reservoir. There are more than 150 such road terminations across Truman Reservoir, with many located in Henry County. While numerous access points are currently leased to public or private entities that provide public use, the new MOU commits both parties to jointly maintain access to eight specific road terminations, with the option to add additional locations in the future.
County officials and project representatives emphasized the importance of maintaining public access to the reservoir, citing recreation as a key benefit. Access to the lake supports outdoor activities that contribute to public health and quality of life, while also strengthening the local economy through tourism, job creation, and long-term economic stability.
Both parties stated the agreement reflects a shared commitment to work cooperatively with local stakeholders to maximize public access opportunities on the reservoir whenever possible. Officials noted that continued collaboration will help ensure the reservoir remains an accessible and valuable resource for Henry County residents and visitors alike.
