The Lowry City Board of Aldermen approved the hiring of a new public works trainee during a special closed session meeting held Tuesday evening.

The meeting was conducted on February 24, 2026, in accordance with Missouri Revised Statute 610.021(3), which allows closed sessions for matters related to the hiring, firing, promotion, or discipline of a specific employee. Notice of the meeting was properly posted at City Hall, shared with the St. Clair County Courier, and published on social media.

Patricia Landes called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Aldermen in attendance included West Ward Alderman Sean Langston and East Ward Aldermen Charles Cone and Jackie Cutler. Alderman Shirley Edmunds was absent.

Following a unanimous roll-call vote, the board entered closed session to interview applicant Deryk Meyer for the public works trainee position.

After the interview, the board unanimously approved a motion to hire Meyer at a starting wage of $18 per hour, with an official start date of March 2, 2026. The motion also included a provision for Meyer’s pay rate to be reevaluated following the board’s regularly scheduled meeting in June.

The closed session was adjourned by unanimous roll-call vote, after which the board briefly reconvened in open session before officially adjourning the meeting.

The action was approved by the Lowry City Board of Aldermen, continuing efforts to staff and support the city’s public works department.
