A high-speed pursuit that reached speeds of nearly 95 miles per hour came to a safe end Thursday, March 5, thanks to quick coordination between multiple law enforcement agencies in Henry County.
According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began at approximately 11:15 a.m. when the Lowry City Police Department attempted to stop a driver who refused to pull over. The vehicle fled northbound into Henry County, reaching speeds of around 95 miles per hour.
As the pursuit approached the busy intersection of Highway 13 and Highway 7, deputies with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and a trooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol quickly coordinated a plan to prevent the fleeing vehicle from entering the intersection and potentially endangering motorists.
Detective Kubilus and the state trooper deployed spike strips across the roadway near Highway 13 and Calvird Drive. As the suspect’s vehicle approached the patrol vehicles and spike strips, the driver stopped and was taken into custody without further incident.
Authorities say the suspect was transported to the St. Clair County Jail, where the original charges connected to the pursuit were initiated by the Lowry City Police Department.
Officials say incidents like this highlight how quickly dangerous situations can develop on area highways and the importance of communication and coordination between agencies to protect the public.
Law enforcement agencies involved in the response included the Lowry City Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, Clinton Police Department, and the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
