A section of Missouri Route 2 west of Windsor will soon close as contractor crews begin work to replace the bridge over East Tebo Creek.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), the bridge will be closed to all through traffic beginning the week of March 23 and is expected to remain closed until late May while crews demolish the existing structure and build a new bridge.

The project includes the installation of new barrier walls, guardrails at both ends of the bridge, and permanent pavement striping. The replacement bridge will also be widened by three feet to a total width of 26 feet, allowing for two 12-foot travel lanes.

MoDOT officials say the current bridge, originally built in 1934, is in deteriorating condition. Approximately 860 vehicles travel across the bridge each day.

Traffic Impacts and Detour

During construction, all lanes of Route 2 over East Tebo Creek will be closed. Drivers will still be able to access driveways and entrances on either side of the bridge but will not be permitted to travel through the work zone.

A signed detour will route motorists along Missouri Route 2, Henry County Route J, and Missouri Route 52. Signs and electronic message boards will be posted to alert drivers approaching the closure. Motorists are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time.

Travelers can also monitor current road conditions and closures using MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map. Officials note that weather or construction delays could impact the project timeline.

Part of Regional Bridge Improvement Effort

The Route 2 bridge replacement is part of MoDOT’s Kaysinger Basin Bridge Bundle, a three-year effort to improve 20 bridges across seven west-central Missouri counties. Fourteen bridges will be fully replaced, while six will undergo major rehabilitation. On average, the bridges included in the project are about 70 years old.

The work is being carried out by The ESS Team, a partnership that includes Emery Sapp & Sons of Columbia and Bartlett & West of Topeka, Kansas. The overall project carries a price tag of $38 million and is scheduled for completion by November 15, 2027, with oversight from MoDOT and the Federal Highway Administration.

More details about the project are available on MoDOT’s Kaysinger Basin Bridge Bundle project website.
