With morel mushroom season underway in Missouri, the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is offering a virtual program to help outdoor enthusiasts learn more about finding and identifying these popular spring fungi.

MDC staff will host a Virtual Morel Hunting Program from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31. The session will cover the life cycle of mushrooms, preferred habitats, where to search for morels, and important rules and regulations related to mushroom hunting.

The program is open to participants of all ages, but registration is required.

For those unable to attend the March 31 session, MDC will offer a condensed version of the program from noon to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, also requiring advance registration.

In addition to the virtual events, MDC encourages mushroom hunters to review its publication, “A Guide to Missouri’s Edible and Poisonous Mushrooms,” available on the department’s website.

MDC staff host both virtual and in-person programs throughout the year at conservation areas and nature centers across the state. A full listing of upcoming events can be found at mdc.mo.gov/events.
