Drivers traveling through Calhoun should plan for lane closures and possible traffic delays early next week as contractor crews begin tree removal work along Henry County Route J.

The Missouri Department of Transportation says the work will take place Monday and Tuesday, March 30 and 31, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Route J between Missouri Route 52 and West 1st Street in Calhoun.

During the work hours, Route J will be reduced to one lane in areas where crews are operating. Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic through the work zone. Motorists are advised to slow down, stay alert for workers and equipment near the roadway, and expect slowed traffic and delays.

MoDOT officials say all driveways and entrances will remain accessible while the work is underway. There will be no signed detour, but drivers are encouraged to consider alternate routes if possible. Signs and message boards will be posted to alert motorists approaching the work zone.

The tree removal is part of a larger contract to improve pavement and sidewalks at various locations in Henry and Bates counties. That broader project is expected to begin in mid-summer 2026.

Motorists can check current road conditions and traffic impacts by visiting MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map. Officials note that weather or scheduling conflicts could impact the work timeline.
