The Henry County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday that Henry County has officially received the Missouri Blue Shield designation for 2026, according to notification from the Missouri Department of Public Safety.
The designation recognizes communities across the state that demonstrate strong commitments to public safety, crime reduction, and building partnerships between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
Henry County first joined the Missouri Blue Shield initiative in 2025, and officials say the program has already made a meaningful impact. Through last year’s participation, the county received a $50,000 grant that helped fund improvements including enhanced investigative technology, upgraded equipment, and continued investment in personnel.
The initiative is a collaborative effort involving multiple communities throughout the county, including Urich, Deepwater, Montrose, Windsor, Calhoun, and Brownington. Officials say that partnership has been key to strengthening public safety efforts across the region.
The Missouri Blue Shield Program was created by Governor Mike Kehoe in January 2025 through an executive order. In its first year, more than 200 communities across Missouri earned the designation and received grant funding to support law enforcement needs such as body cameras, radios, vehicles, and other critical equipment.
Governor Kehoe said the program highlights what can be achieved when communities prioritize public safety and support law enforcement efforts. Missouri Department of Public Safety Director Mark James added that the program continues to provide essential equipment and training to agencies committed to improving safety outcomes.
Henry County Sheriff Aaron Brown praised the teamwork behind the designation, noting strong cooperation not only within the county but also with regional task forces. Those include the Midwest Missouri Career Criminal and Drug Task Force and the Western Missouri Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, both aimed at targeting offenders and protecting vulnerable populations.
Sheriff Brown said the recognition reflects the dedication of local communities, law enforcement partners, and team members who work together daily to keep Henry County safe.
County officials say they plan to apply for additional Blue Shield grant opportunities in 2026 to continue building on that momentum.
