
A suspect is in custody following a shooting and kidnapping in Lee’s Summit that resulted in a vehicular chase extending into Johnson County, MO. The victim of the shooting was hospitalized with critical injuries, while two kidnapping victims, a 33-year-old female and a juvenile, were located safely in Kansas City, MO. The vehicular chase ended, with a suspect taken into custody and another juvenile recovered unharmed, with cooperation from Johnson County, MO, Sheriff’s Office, Warrensburg Police Department, and Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
Lee’s Summit Police Department reported that “On 9/28/2024 at approximately 1730 hours, officers were dispatched to an address in the 2200 block of NE Town Centre Blvd on the report of a shooting.” Officers entered the residence through an unlocked back door and found a 43-year-old male “suffering from several gunshot wounds.” The man “was transported to a local hospital” where Lee’s Summit Police reported as of Monday, September 30th, “he remains in the ICU with critical injuries.”
Officers from the Lee’s Summit Police Department “worked with the Kansas City Missouri Police Department to identify a 33-year-old female victim who had been kidnapped from the shooting scene along with a juvenile.” The woman and the juvenile “were located safely in Kansas City, MO,” but law enforcement continued to search for the suspect in both the kidnapping and the shooting.
Lee’s Summit PD reports that “On 09/28/2024 at approximately 2300 hours; Missouri State Highway Patrol located the suspect vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle failed to yield and Missouri State Highway Patrol pursued the suspect vehicle with the assistance of Johnson County MO Sheriff’s Office, Warrensburg Police Department, and Cass County Sheriff’s Office.”
As Johnson County, MO, Sheriff’s Office describes the incident, “Johnson County deputies deployed stop sticks that deflated the tires, with the Warrensburg Police Department assisting in additional stop stick deployments as the suspect vehicle entered Warrensburg. The suspect continued driving on the deflated tires, failing to yield and traveled back to US 50 Highway, westbound.
“During the pursuit, the vehicle rammed a deputy’s patrol vehicle. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was requested to use the Grappler to stop the vehicle.
“Reports indicated the suspect was armed with a handgun, and a juvenile was inside the vehicle.
The vehicle traveled to the 1800 block of NW US 50 Highway, driving on rims. Cass County Sheriff’s Office deployed the Grappler. The vehicle lost control and came to a stop. The juvenile was secured, and the suspect surrendered to law enforcement. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.”
Lee’s Summit Police Department stated “the suspect, 33-year-old Kody Michael Holmes, was arrested and a juvenile passenger was found unharmed. Detectives submitted the case to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office and Holmes was charged with 1st Degree Assault, Kidnapping (x2), and Armed Criminal Action (x3), with a bond of $500,000 cash only.”
