Tragedy struck the Iconium community early Sunday. Scott’s Iconium Store caught fire and is destroyed.

Co-owner Shannon Tucker called 911 just before 2 a.m. Multiple fire departments — including Sac-Osage, Lowry City, Deepwater, Roscoe, Wheatland, Weaubleau and Warsaw — helped fight the flames.

No one is hurt. The walls and roof are still standing but the interior is gutted. Firefighters were able to keep the flames away from the gasoline tank, and the propane tanks on the porch were moved to the porch of the Tuckers’ home next door.

An investigator for the State Fire Marshal’s Office was here at daybreak but could not determine a cause. The investigator said it’s possible it started from an electrical malfunction or in the fireplace.

Shannon and his wife, Nikki, have owned the store since 2012 after buying it from longtime owners Ginger and Wayne Scott. Wayne’s parents bought it in 1946. Shannon says the original footprint of the store was built in 1896 but it had several additions.

Firefighters returned to the scene after flames rekindled about 11 a.m.
