Last night, the Henry County Commissioners hosted a meeting at the Benson Center in Clinton, MO  with Every to address the reports of contamination around the former Montrose Power Plant site.

Chuck Caisley, Chief Customer Officer for Evergy spoke on the reported results from Triangle and shared their concern of contamination. He shared that Evergy is committed to working with the county to determine if there is an issue and if so, where its coming from. Evergy wants to validate the results by having more testing done, fully understand what the results indicate, and then be part of the solution moving forward.

Caisley continued and explained the process the fly ash takes from leaving the Hawthorn Station in Kansas City, being trucked to Montrose, and how it is converted into cement then stored. He shared that Evergy’s latest test results have been compliant with EPA and DNR’s standards, but this concern warrants further testing at the site.

The Department of Nature Resources had a representative at last night’s meeting and was there to gather information and hear the concerns of the citizens.

The Henry County Commissioners proposed to Evergy that Henry County will pay for another environmental test and seek cooperation with Evergy to satisfy both parties in determining if there is in fact a contamination. Evergy agreed and looks forward working with the county in creating a solution to the problem.

Radford Media Group will have more on this story as it develops.
