In this final week of the legislative session, Missouri lawmakers are considering a tax incentive package that would help to keep the Kansas City Royals in the state. The state House could soon debate a $300 million incentive package aimed at building a new Royals stadium in Clay County to prevent the team from moving to Kansas.
Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe said there have been multiple leadership meetings happening to figure things out.
“Meetings with county commissioners from both counties or legislature, I should say, from Jackson County elected officials, it takes more than just one person to figure something out,” Kehoe said during a stop in St. Joseph. “So you want to try to get as many teams, people on the team to figure out where the best ideas are, what it actually takes again to keep them here, but also be responsible to the taxpayers who sent us to that building.”
But will Kehoe push lawmakers to get something done before Friday’s legislative deadline?
“Yeah, they’ll have some options to look at. I’m pretty confident of that,” said Kehoe.
The legislation is sponsored by Sen. Kurtis Gregory, R-Marshall.
