An unusual event listing in the Clinton Democrat newspaper this week left many readers scratching their heads—and a few laughing out loud. The paper mistakenly printed that “Senior Oil Wrestling” would be featured at the upcoming Olde Glory Days festival, an activity that organizers quickly clarified is not on the official schedule.
The humorous misprint appeared in a community calendar section previewing Olde Glory Days, which runs July 3–6 in downtown Clinton. Nestled among listings for the parade, carnival rides, and musical performances was the unexpected—and entirely fictional—event supposedly set for Saturday morning at the Senior Center.
“We’re all about fun and family-friendly entertainment at Olde Glory Days,” said Clinton Chamber of Commerce Director David Lee. “But senior citizen oil wrestling? That’s not exactly in our wheelhouse.”
The listing quickly made the rounds on social media, prompting dozens of lighthearted comments and even a few tongue-in-cheek volunteers. One local resident joked, “I was going to sign up my grandpa—he’s slippery even without the oil.”
The Clinton Democrat issued a correction Friday morning, blaming the error on a prank submission that mistakenly made it past editorial review.
Despite the mix-up, the Chamber says the incident has only brought more attention to the festival and reminded residents to check official sources when planning their holiday weekend.
“We’re just glad people are talking about Olde Glory Days,” Lee said with a chuckle. “Just maybe not that version of it.”
