Sammie Elisabeth (Bishop) Dougherty

Sammie Elisabeth (Bishop) Dougherty, 80, of Windsor, Missouri, formerly of Clinton, Mo., died Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at her grandson’s home in Sedalia, Mo.

She was born at St. Francis Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado on January 16, 1945, the daughter of Kenneth O’Neil Bishop, Sr., and Mabel Edna (Potts) Bishop. On October 8, 1966, she married John Arthur Dougherty in Westminster, Colorado, and he preceded her in death on April 8, 1979.

Sammie was the mother of 4 children, David, Chris, Tabitha, and a son Mike which she gave up for adoption at birth. She was a dedicated wife and homemaker for her children. She enjoyed all types of crafts, especially coloring and drawing. She enjoyed nature and had a special love for horses, butterflies, ladybugs, pansy flowers and hummingbirds. She loved to make her family smile and was quick to get to know people she met. She was loving, caring, and had a heart of gold.

Survivors include 3 children, David Alen Dougherty (Debbie), Albany, Georgia; Chris Scott Dougherty, Belton, Mo., and Tabitha Ray Dougherty (Aaron Fowler), Windsor, Mo.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Bishop, Jr. (Linda), Kanorado, Co.; a sister, Charlene Davis (Ken), State of California; and several nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter Haleigh Yvonne Lindsay; and 2 sisters, Leona Lee (Bishop) Winship and Susanne (Bishop) Swanson.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Thursday, July 17, 2025, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor. The family suggests memorial to Heartland Hospice in memory of Sammie. Condolences may be left online at www.hadleyfuneralhome.com
