Joe Martin Bennett, 90, of Sedalia, Missouri, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025, at Lincoln Community Care Center in Lincoln, Missouri.
Born on May 21, 1935, in Portsmouth, Virginia, Joe grew up in Clinton, Missouri, where he graduated from Clinton High School in 1953. He went on to serve his country with pride in the United States Navy for two years before pursuing a career in medicine.
After completing his medical training at the Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery, Joe went on to complete his internship in Tulsa, Oklahoma, followed by surgical training in Kansas City, Missouri. He then established a respected Ophthalmology practice in Sedalia, Missouri, which he maintained for over 50 years. His dedication to his patients and his community left a lasting impact on generations of families.
Beyond his professional life, Joe was a man of many passions. He took great pride in raising Hereford cattle and nurtured a lifelong fascination with exotic animals. He was known for his love of learning and found joy in long, thoughtful conversations over coffee with friends and family.
Joe was united in marriage to Marjorie Eileen Logan on June 26, 1960. Their enduring partnership was a source of strength and love until her passing on April 8, 2020. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Minnie Bennett, and his daughter, Linda Lorene Bennett.
He is survived by his three sons: Lindley L. Bennett (Marietta) of Cypress, Texas; Edwin B. Bennett of Sedalia, Missouri; and Galen B. Bennett of Sedalia, Missouri. He also leaves behind two beloved grandchildren.
Joe will be remembered for his wisdom, warmth, and unwavering curiosity. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the family he cherished.
