Former Benton County Treasurer’s Arraignment Canceled After Judge Recusal; Case Moves Forward in Circuit Court

The arraignment for former Benton County Treasurer Richard L. Renno, originally scheduled for Tuesday, December 3rd, has been canceled after Judge M. Brandon Baker recused himself from the case.

Because of the recusal, the Missouri Supreme Court will now appoint a new judge, and a new arraignment date will be set once that assignment is made.

Court documents indicate the case has been “forwarded to circuit court,” meaning it has moved from a lower court to a higher court for more serious proceedings. This typically occurs when a preliminary hearing finds probable cause to support felony charges. The transfer ensures the case continues in a trial court that handles major criminal cases, significant civil matters, and certain appeals.

No additional timeline has been released, but updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
