Residents across Missouri and much of the country will need to set their clocks ahead one hour this weekend as Daylight Saving Time begins.
At 2:00 a.m. Sunday, March 8, clocks will “spring forward” to 3:00 a.m., meaning most people will lose an hour of sleep but gain more daylight in the evening hours.
Daylight Saving Time is observed in most states and is designed to make better use of natural daylight during the warmer months. The change means sunrises will occur a little later in the morning, while sunsets will happen later in the evening.
Officials also recommend using the time change as a reminder to check household safety items. Residents are encouraged to replace batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms, and review emergency preparedness plans.
Daylight Saving Time will remain in effect until Sunday, November 1, when clocks will “fall back” one hour.
For many, the longer daylight hours are a welcome sign that spring is just around the corner.
