KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Worlds of Fun in Kansas City is among seven amusement parks that Six Flags Entertainment Corporation has agreed to sell as part of a move to streamline its park portfolio and focus on long-term growth.

Six Flags announced it has entered into definitive agreements to sell the parks to EPR Properties, a Kansas City-based real estate investment trust that specializes in experiential properties such as entertainment venues and attractions.

The parks included in the sale are Michigan’s Adventure in Michigan, Schlitterbahn Waterpark in Galveston, Texas, Six Flags Great Escape in New York, La Ronde in Montreal, Six Flags St. Louis, Valleyfair in Minnesota, and Worlds of Fun in Kansas City.

Six Flags officials say the decision is part of a broader strategy to focus investment and innovation on parks with the greatest opportunities for expansion and enhanced guest experiences.

“At Six Flags, creating unforgettable moments has always been at the heart of everything we do,” the company said in a statement. “Sometimes, staying true to that mission means making thoughtful decisions about where we focus our energy so we can keep delivering the thrills and experiences our guests expect.”

For guests visiting Worlds of Fun, the transition is not expected to impact day-to-day operations in the near future.

Under the agreement, all seven parks will continue operating normally through the 2026 season. Current season passes and memberships will remain valid through next year, including multi-park access. EPR Properties will also retain the right to continue using the Six Flags brand through 2026, meaning park names, signage, and branding will remain the same during the transition.

EPR plans to partner with experienced park operators to manage the properties, including Enchanted Parks for the six U.S. parks.

Six Flags leaders acknowledged the important role the parks play in their communities, noting that locations like Worlds of Fun have created generations of memories for families across the Midwest.

“We understand how meaningful these parks are to the communities they serve and to the guests who have grown up visiting them,” the company said. “Our teams at these locations have created countless memories.”

The sale will allow Six Flags to focus on a more streamlined portfolio of 34 parks across North America, while the new ownership group works to continue operating and developing the parks being transferred.

Worlds of Fun has been a major regional attraction for decades, drawing visitors from across Missouri, Kansas, and neighboring states with popular roller coasters, seasonal events like Halloween Haunt and WinterFest, and its adjacent water park Oceans of Fun.

Six Flags says the transition is intended to strengthen the company’s long-term position while ensuring the parks involved continue providing entertainment and family experiences for years to come.
