“Bomb cyclone” is a commonly used name to describe a low-pressure system occurring in the winter that explosively intensifies within a 24-hour period and typically includes heavy snow and strong winds. Specifically, it occurs when the central pressure of a low-pressure system drops at least 24 millibars within 24 hours (Websters). This is exactly what is happening in the Pacific Northwest that will bring an atmospheric river of moisture into the west coast with torrential rains and mountain snow all the way to the Rockies (picture below). We will feel some effects at we head into Thanksgiving week with strong SW winds that will bring nice temperatures in front of the Low until it moves on across to the east, bring very cold NorthWest flow Dec 4th through the 9th. This will be interesting as this cycles back through in January along with the LRC (Lezak’s Reoccurring Cycle)! Have a great day everyone! Subby
