A Henry County man has been convicted in the shooting death of his wife following a jury trial that concluded Thursday.

According to the office of Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway, Ryan Alexander was found guilty of first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Ashton Alexander.

Prosecutors said Ryan Alexander shot Ashton Alexander multiple times after she attempted to leave him following an argument. Authorities said Alexander later called 911 and claimed he acted in self-defense.

After hearing evidence during the trial, the jury returned guilty verdicts on both charges Thursday.

Ryan Alexander will be sentenced at a later date.
