
During the meeting, board members approved renewal of the city’s membership with the Kaysinger Basin Regional Planning Commission at an annual cost of $208.42. Joyce Fiaccone was also approved to serve as the city’s representative with the organization.
The board also approved the city’s annual MOPERM insurance renewal and voted to expand bonding coverage to include the city clerk and city collector positions.
A bid from Gary’s All-Around Tree Trimming of Appleton City was accepted for removal of a tree at the cemetery at a cost of $3,800, including stump grinding.
Board members also revisited a request from Tracy Fletcher for an exemption to the city’s mobile home ordinance after discussion earlier in the meeting ended without action. Aldermen Sean Langston and Cecil Shehorn voted in favor of allowing placement of a 2017 model mobile home at 505 East 4th Street, while Aldermen Charles Cone and Clark Patterson voted against the request. Mayor Greg BeVelle cast the tie-breaking vote in favor of the exemption.
The board scheduled a budget meeting for June 15 at 6 p.m. to discuss the fiscal year 2026-2027 budget.
In department reports, City Clerk John Farrell reported Police Chief Charles Hodges has submitted his resignation effective in 30 days. Farrell noted appreciation for Hodges’ work reorganizing the department and said officials hope to fill the position quickly.
Fire Chief Justin Norris reported the department responded to 17 calls during the past month, including medical calls, a fire, and motor vehicle accidents, while public works officials reported ongoing wastewater and drinking water certification training for staff.
